home again
for a few days at least
I'm "back home", by which I don't mean Florida: rather, I am in Western NY (nowhere near NYC!!), apple country to be exact.
The weather is cool (around 50F) and rainy. Feels good.
Today we went to the Wolcott Historical Society and saw my great-grandfather's sister's quilt on display; milk bottles from two different cousins' dairy operations of the early 20th century; and a photo of another probable cousin. It gives one a real sense of place to find family connections at a town historical society.
Visited with one aunt and uncle last night, another today. Tomorrow we go to a pork barbeque and will probably see more family.
I really, really don't want to return to Florida. This place is home, despite the past six years in the sandy, sunny South. I want cold, I want snow, and I don't want cockroaches everywhere.
Yesterday I even asked about a job at a local grocery store. I was being halfway facetious but I was definitely half serious.
