red salamander
Just a few minutes ago, I went outside and took a couple of fallen leaves out of the little plastic tub that serves as the animals' water dish when they are out. At the bottom of the tub I saw a juvenile Red Salamander and took a few pictures.

My down-the-road neighbors Steve and Teresa stopped by shortly after I took that picture. Steve suggested that the critter might need a way to get out. I put a big rock in there - carefully, so I didn't injure the salamander - and within an hour it was gone. Live well, salamander.
