civil protest: not just for North Africa anymore!

I have been heartened to read about the public protests in Wisconsin and hope to see them elsewhere. Governor Walker's proposal is not entirely bad, but goes too far in severely restricting collective bargaining ability.

Wake up and speak up, America! The Republicans are lying to you about public-sector compensation.

This is far from the first instance of populist protest in the U.S. and it won't be the last. The Republican majority in the House is under the mistaken impression that the People will roll over and play dead while they take an axe, rather than a scalpel, to our budget and falsely claim that lowering taxes on the wealthy will somehow reduce the deficit. It hasn't worked in the past and it won't work now.

Ignorance may be bliss, but laying about in the land of lotus eaters won't solve our problems.

  1. Jay, I think you meant to say "lowering" taxes on the wealthy would reduce the deficit. That's a false concept that has been disproven at least 3 times since Reagan invented voodoo economics.
