Evidently I won't be picking Lisa up after all. The car is stuck in the driveway, unable to engage any gears. I topped up the clutch fluid reservoir (it was low by about a centimeter) but that made no difference. Air may need to be bled from the system. I guess I have some more research to do.

But Lisa doesn't need to come home until some time this afternoon. I was going to take her some lunch but that obviously isn't happening. There is a Publix supermarket in the same strip mall as the dentist, so she'll buy lunch and fill her prescriptions there. Her daughter Sarah can probably bring her home; she doesn't live too far away from that plaza. Lisa's insurance would cover the ride, but she is supposed to call 24 hours before the event.
