summer's here

Yesterday was Beltane, the traditional first day of summer in Ireland, Scotland and the Isle of Man.

In honor of Beltane (I suppose), the daily high temperatures here have suddenly vaulted to about 90F. Yesterday was the first time that we have needed to run the A/C all day and night.

I set up a kiddie pool for Rocko. It is due for a refill (I had to dump it already thanks to dog hair and skeeter larvae).

Frogs and toads are mating outside our bedroom. Unfortunately their offspring won't get busy eating larvae for a while yet.

The main pool is teeming with life and death already. Fallen leaves, drowned insects and pollen (death); spiders, insect larvae, algae and frog eggs (life). Looks like I need to get out there with the skimmer before running the pump and filter system.

OK, Rocko is out there right now keeping an eye on his pool as I refill it.
