memo to the Discovery Channel

There is a petition on-line protesting the Discovery Channel's plans to broadcast "Sarah Palin's Alaska". I signed the petition and added the following note:

"I would be lying if I said that I'll boycott your usual excellent programming if you go ahead with Sarah Palin's project. That simply won't happen; you have so much to offer.

"But, putting Sarah Palin on your programming schedule hurts your brand and simply serves to line Palin's already bulging pockets. Surely she won't bring in many new viewers. Just as surely, her show will upset more existing viewers than it attracts."
