[Note: corrected version May 22 2010: I had referred to Rand Paul as "Mr." rather than "Dr.". My apologies to Dr. Paul.]
Rand Paul seems to have stepped into his own doo-doo. At least he's timed it well for the rest of us: before the election, but after the primary. Any November opponent has a much better chance of defeating him now that he has revealed his true colors.
But fear not, the Republican machine is trying to spin his disastrous comments as a "setup by the liberal media".
A setup? Really? "Gotcha" questions? Go on, pull the other one! Oh, wait ... now he has pulled out of a scheduled appearance on Meet The Press. Wouldn't want to be sucked into any more "gotcha" situations, would we? Of course, in 2007, his father Ron Paul also spoke out against the Civil Rights Act of 1964. On Meet The Press, as it happens.
Face it, Rand Paul. You are a walking gaffe machine. You cannot remain silent until after the election, and no respectable media outlet will let this die. Even if they do, I am pretty sure that you will let more of your questionable opinions get out.
Joe Biden used to be the poster boy for political gaffes, but he never really rose to your level of inanity. In my opinion you, Dr. Paul, are a damned fool and do not deserve the honor of representing your state in any capacity. Don't quit your day job.
If Paul gets elected, then there is something seriously wrong in the State of Kentucky.
Abraham Lincoln (born in Kentucky, by the way) did not say that ours is a government "of the companies, by the companies and for the companies."
Businesses are not bad things in and of themselves. Discrimination by businesses is a bad thing. Kowtowing to corporations and declaring that Obama's criticism of BP is "un-American" just goes to show that Rand Paul is out of touch, out to lunch or both.
According to Rand Paul, a business should be allowed to deny their services to anybody they don't like. Blacks, Jews, Catholics, Muslims, Lutherans, Episcopalians, Asians, gays, Democrats, Republicans, even Libertarians if they so choose.
This man may as well put on a pointed hood and burn a cross! And yet the Republicans want to align themselves behind him. Their moral compass has long been deteriorating. Now it seems to be completely on the fritz.
