A thorough cleaning of my keyboard has eliminated the bizarre behavior of the cursor, but a key-by-key diagnostic still shows that four keys do not function. Fortunately they are not ones that I need to use very often: F6, F8, backtick/tilde and PgDn. I will still be replacing the keyboard, but the basic everyday use of my computer is no longer severely compromised.

I went fishing in Dunedin a few days ago with Lisa's brother-in-law. We caught quite a few small pinfish, a couple of other small fish that I cannot identify, and one somewhat cylindrical fish that nobody recognized. It was my first time fishing since about 2002, and my first-ever saltwater fishing experience.
