the dingus-in-chief
What surprises me more than anything else is this: a significant percentage of our population actually believes him!
George "Whatmeworry" Bush preached to the choir - the dumb-fuck choir, that is - when he belched forth the following sad homily on July 12:
"Although we have not found stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction, we were right to go into Iraq," Bush said after inspecting a display of nuclear weapons parts and equipment from Libya. (AP)
Libya, you may remember, has a rather long history of supporting terrorism. It even had substantial fines levied for the Lockerbie disaster, and was a defendant in Germany after a nightclub was hit with a bomb.
Did Bush strike Libya after the 9/11 attacks? No. Did he implicate Gadhafi when placing blame? Again, no.
No, the only reasonable place to lay blame was Saddam Hussein's Iraq. (Huh?) Yeah, that one: the guy whose country was crippled by economic sanctions. The guy whose country was covered (2/3 of it, at least) by constant surveillance and random bombings by the US and its allies.
OK, so did Bush even suggest that Libya received its nuclear technology from Iraq? Of course not! Why bother, when so many suckers will suddenly see a connection between the two Arab nations - unsupported by logic, but implied by the setting in which the pro-war statement was made?
Dubya's eminently faulty reasoning would have us believe that Saddam was the greatest threat we have faced since Hitler. Pay no mind to mainland China, Russia and North Korea. The latter even declared openly that they were seeking (and later, that they had acquired) nuclear weapons and intercontinental missile technology, but Iraq was a greater priority to the Great Chickenhawk.
Nobody ever tries to defend Saddam's character, but Bush and most of the Republican party would tell you otherwise. In their view, if you opposed Gulf War II ("Sonny's Revenge") then you "hate America" and "love Saddam."
I suppose that Germans who opposed the annexation of the Sudetenland were declaimed as "hating the Fatherland," too. Of course, most of them didn't survive the war.
