you play the tarantella, all the hounds begin to roar ...

I woke up tonight to an interesting sight: a tarantula crawling across my ceiling.

This isn't the first time I've arisen to such an event; in August 1999, I had the same thing happen while I was living in Deland, FL.

There are a couple of differences between my first "tarantula experience" and the latest one.

1) The first time I had a tarantula over my head (on the ceiling), I had never seen a spider so large before. When I turned on the bedroom light the critter ran off and disappeared.

Two weeks later, I headed to the bathroom to get a bit of toilet paper (so I could blow my nose). When I pulled a little bit of paper from the roll, the long-lost tarantula leapt from the center of the TP roll onto my hand.

I screamed.

2) When I spotted the big-ass spider this time, I had Spectracide Bug-Stop on hand. Once he was along the wall far enough so I wouldn't pesticide my own bed, I shot the bugger. I had to persue him around the house for a while before I finally killed the bastard.

Personally, I think the latest encounter worked out better for me.
