stop the madness!
The name of the PATRIOT act was obviously carefully chosen to provide a comforting acronym; if it had a name with initials like STALINIST, the American public would be far less likely to jump on the bandwagon without carefully examining the details. Very few lawmakers and citizens really paid attention to the odious nature of this Act; more's the pity, as STALINIST would be a much more appropriate moniker for it.
The passage of this Act was a terrible mistake. I life in greater apprehension now than I did before it was passed; not fear of terrorists, but fear of being spied upon by my government, of unreasonable search and seizure, of false arrest and imprisonment without benefit of legal representation. And, I have done nothing wrong!
To say that "if you have done nothing illegal, then you have nothing to fear" is to be blind to the reality that led to the creation of our system of government and the concept of protection under the law.
