what liberal media?

background entertainment: "Russia, Land of the Tsars" on the History Channel

In a refreshingly honest moment, a member of the "conservative press" confirmed my suspicions regarding the motivations involved in creating and expanding the conservative media culture.

He is quoted in the article Conservative Journalists' Dirty Little Secret at tompaine.com.

The "liberal media" is a straw man, a deceptive term concocted by the right wing in order to make themselves look like victims. They are only victims of their own hatreds and prejudices; the "liberal media" doesn't exist, not in the form it is commonly understood to take.

There are liberal publications, to be sure; there are liberal commentators as well. The majority of the news media are, however, balanced in their reporting. At least they appear to be. That there is a growing conservative media trend is plainly obvious. A very conservative friend of mine celebrates this; he just loves the way "the Liberals squirm" (his words) when they see outlets like the Faux "News" Network expressing the right-wing message in its heavy-handed way.

I can't watch Faux "News" most of the time; it angries up the blood. Even CNN, which is held up by some Conservatives as a bastion of liberalism, is leaning to the right. Ted Turner doesn't run it anymore; yet, the fact that he started CNN some 20 years ago leads the Conservatives to believe that he controls the news it reports. Balderdash!
