when I grow up, I want to be a columnist
background entertainment: "Destination Moon," Robert Heinlein/George Pal, 1950 (DVD) (Sci-Fi)
Yes, I have decided that I want - no, need, for my own satisfaction - an editorial column of my own.
In recent weeks I have written many letters and essays on current events and posted them here and elsewhere. Some of these I have sent to friends and family. A few friends have responded, some positively, a few negatively; just today, one friend told me that he had been asked by via email, by a conservative acquaintance, to express his opinion of the President's State of the Union speech. Rather than elucidate his opinion directly, he wanted to forward my essay verbatim, signature and all. I was happy to agree, having already decided to publish an online column.
Tonight I will search the registered domain names. I prefer to have a dedicated domain rather than using a child page dependent upon a tilde'd address. The tilde lends a certain tackiness, and it encourages the bolder and more web-savvy to explore aspects of a particular site more than I might prefer.
Someday ... someday you may see me up there with Molly Ivins, George Will, Russell Baker, and Will Rogers. Loved by many, and hated by many. Excellent!
