back in the saddle

I needed that vacation. Don't get out of town very often, a couple of times a year at best. Last June I actually got out of the state twice within a span of two weeks; one overnight business trip to New Orleans, then a week up north to apple country in New York State, between the Finger Lakes and Lake Ontario, visiting my folks (their summer home) and my kids.

New Orleans is probably a lot more fun if you're drunk.

The guy I was with told me right up front that he was not a real exciting person to hang out with; he wasn't kidding. Fortunately I'm not either. We did wander around a bit, saw the Natchez (a riverboat):

and a live street band:

Other than that, we had to go to a trade show for circuit board design software. Woo-hoo! The mind boggles at the excitement potential. Yes, the life of a circuit board designer is one thrill followed by another.

Get this: we went to the Hard Rock Cafe and didn't even have a single drink. We had a good supper, to be sure, but no alcohol. The waiter pushed it on us but we pushed back. Like I said, the guy I was with is no party animal, and I ... well, lets just say that I'm a little too much of a party animal. If I had one drink, we'd be there all night and I'd never make it to the trade show the next day. This Friday will be the big Three Years of Sobriety.
