About a half-hour ago I was in the kitchen peeling potatoes for supper. Our hummingbird feeder is right outside the window.
A male hummingbird kept hovering in front of the window, staring at me and chirping. I noticed that the feeder was almost empty. "Wait a minute," I said, "I'll fill it in a little while. It's not empty yet."
He left, then came back a few more times, looking at me and chirping. So I put down the potatoes, mixed up some sugar water and filled the feeder.
When I started working on the potatoes again, a female hovered in front of the window staring at me. I managed to convince her that the feeder had been refilled; she settled on the perch and drank deeply.
