Yesterday was fantastic. A beautiful Sunday at home.
The Sun was shining brightly all day (until about 3:45 PM, when it went behind the mountain); I played with Rocko and Hershey, the dog next door, ate fresh breakfast sausage from a freshly-slaughtered pig that lived a short distance down the river, spent several hours reading about the family connections between Reformation period monarchs and their spouses (starting with Maximilian I, Holy Roman Emperor, and ending with Catherine Parr, learning of Joanna the Mad along the way). We had banana bread left over from the night before and Lisa cooked some apples with sugar and cinnamon to pour over it.
After the Sun set for real, the waxing crescent Moon illuminated the yard and hillside well enough for Rocko and me to scramble around on the steepest slopes until after 10 PM.
But that wonderful day refused to end for me until about 4:30 AM today. I was wide awake but didn't want to take any of the Xanax that Lisa keeps on hand. She rarely needs it, but occasionally it is necessary to help her settle down. It is there but I avoid it. Usually my night meds help me sleep, but I'm out of them for a few more days. I laid in bed for hours with my mind running away with me; playing bass guitar in my head while simultaneously obsessing about the minutiae of the upcoming weeks' duties. A couple of times I got up and went to the living room and came back later, only to rise again. Finally I laid down for the last time near 3:30 AM but still didn't sleep for over an hour.
I did do my best not to read about politics yesterday. Such a circus really does not need to be watched constantly at this point. The Republicans continue to tear each other apart while President Obama continues to look better and better. My mood was too happy and light to allow me to drag myself down like that.
The weather today is warmer but just as sunny, and the wind has mostly abated. Yet I find myself hunkered down indoors fighting a headache and exhaustion. Lisa is out with Rocko - probably in the neighbors' house - and I think I'll take a nap. Chores are done. Lisa took care of some important financial business before she left.
Yep. Naptime. Nappin' with the cat.
