apple grunt and a big chipmunk

I made apple grunt tonight.

Lisa's been real sick for a week or so. She did get up and come out to the living room today and stayed out there most of the afternoon. Her cold has rubbed off on me a little bit so I laid back down at about 3 PM, but after the evening news I was ready to get up for a while. Lisa reminded me, as I tried to nap, that I had promised to make apple grunt today. This perturbed me a bit; I had hardly forgotten. I just thought that I'd feel better later if I took a nap during the afternoon. And so I snapped back, "I didn't plan to be sick!" Dang. But I got up and did it eventually.

Jack found the mother of all chipmunks lying dead on the floor between the oven and the adjoining cabinet. When I went to serve Lisa the first piece of grunt, Jack alerted me to it - I thought he was watching for mice. Yeah -- a half-pound mouse.

It hadn't been there more than a couple of days; I had looked there a few days ago when I made cookies. But it was just starting to get a bit smelly. Looked like it was asleep, and rigor mortis had passed. But it was the biggest chipmunk I've ever seen. Bigger than a Tampa squirrel.

I dragged it out from its hidey hole, threw it outside, washed my hands and served up the grunt. I took a couple of pictures of the grunt, but not the squirrel.
