do bears poop in the woods?

The one behind our house pooped on the path to the creek.

When Rocko and I went down to the creek yesterday afternoon, I was rather surprised to find a new path branching off and crossing the creek just downstream. It was clear that a small bear had come through since the previous night.

I tracked the bear's movements on our side of the creek. Weeds knocked down. Leaves and moss disturbed on the hillside. A tree with some bark removed, presumably as a result of "somebody" looking for grubs. A pile of shit.

Whoa! There is is. Bear shit. I poked it with a stick and gave a slight whiff. I had been fooled a few minutes before by an odd mud formation with a poop-like appearance; that one only smelled like mud. But this one was definitely bear shit and it had a much more textured makeup.

Today, though, I'm driving back to Florida to get my psych meds and pack up more stuff. Lisa is staying behind and is taking her mother to the doctor today.

Moving here has been transformative for Lisa; she is getting out and doing things, even going to a party a couple of days ago. It is wonderful.
