I smell war

The Arab Spring was only the beginning.

Syria's been on fire for a couple of years. Outside actors are there, too, from numerous sources and on both sides of the conflict. We're getting the chemical weapons and precursors out without committing our military to a land campaign in the process, and that's very, very good.

It is so very good that we aren't on the ground in Syria because I smell a regional war coming on.

Egypt sent Turkey's ambassador home with a request for, basically, a less friendly relationship. Turkey responded in kind. A car bomb exploded in Iraq a few days ago. Things are bubbling and boiling. I have a bad feeling about the near future in the Middle East.

And I hope we keep the hell out of it.
