nobody should be surprised
Nobody who was paying attention a dozen years ago should be in any way surprised that the NSA has been mining telephone and other communications records. It is legal now, because of the Patriot Act. Anybody who is surprised or shocked to find out that the government is using powers that were handed to it an all-too-great of a hurry really should get out more.
