My latest animal discovery here "up the river" is a sound I've only heard in the depths of the night - a particular call made by red foxes, called a "vixen's scream."
With the warmer days and nights, we have had our windows open at night, and there are plenty of other sounds and fireflies. Lisa has heard sticks cracking on the mountain behind us, which is where I heard the fox. Not sure what (other than a bear) would be making that stick-breaking kind of noise at 2 AM.
