osama bin laden killed

Lisa woke me promptly at 8 AM this morning, saying "it's time to get up and start the day." Not sure why. She went back to sleep once I was up.

I walked out of the bedroom and, as I am wont to do, immediately turned on NPR to keep me company while doing the morning chores. The news of the killing of Osama bin Laden by U.S. Special Forces was the first thing I heard. I haven't had a chance to watch any TV or read anything yet, so I have a few things on my mind that are as yet untainted by outside influence.

1) Can we bring our troops home now?

2) Just one more reason to re-elect Obama by a landslide. (Bush bumbled around for eight years and nearly destroyed our country, waving a flag in our face to distract us from the knife he slid into our collective back. And no potential Republican candidate stands a chance in 2012; they are all jokes or worse.)

3) The BeckPalinTrump(tm) three-ring circus will lie and dissemble to disrespect President Obama over bin Laden's death. Something along the lines of:
a) This makes us less safe for some reason.
b) bin Laden isn't really dead, this is a pre-election ploy, a conspiracy between al-Qaeda and a Muslim usurper designed to ensure Obama's reelection in 2012.
c) The Arab world must be outraged by this and we should expect another major attack on our soil (see "a" above).
d) This is a distraction from the "real issues", the "important" things - like, say, repealing ObamaCare, destroying Medicare and instituting Republican death panels.

4) Can we bring our troops home now?

We need to remember that bin Laden was no hero to the Arab world. He killed many more Muslims than Westerners. The Arab Spring of 2011 has shown the world that peaceful revolution is more successful than suicide attacks in fomenting real change.
