The final flight of the shuttle Endeavour, STS-134 took off this morning. Lisa came out of the bedroom just before 9 AM and headed out to the street to try to watch the shuttle ascend. It was difficult to make out at first due to glare from the morning sun, but we did locate the plume. It didn't rise very high before going out of sight (Cape Canaveral is about 150 miles away as the crow flies), but it was cool nonetheless.
This is only the second launch I have seen. When I was at General Dynamics in Tallahassee, I saw one. That was nearly ten years ago.
Brief but heavy rains a couple of days ago heralded the return of cooler temperatures, allowing us to turn off the air conditioning and open doors. I even had to put on a sweatshirt for my 8 AM outdoor chores. I'm back to a tank top now but boy, the cool breeze feels good.
