While clearing out the dead stalks from our bamboo patch this afternoon, a small twig whipped across my right eye. Afterward, I just thought that there was a bit of debris under my eyelid, but I couldn't find anything. Eye drops didn't flush anything out either.
I thought I saw something on the surface of the eye over the iris, so I got the flashlight. Shining the light from different angles helped me differentiate between physical attributes and mere reflections. Sure enough, there is a scratch in the cornea just north of the pupil. It hurts like hell. I have lubricant eye drops and have applied them. Not much else I can do at this point.
Funny thing is, I have a phobia about just this type of incident. I normally wear sunglasses when doing anything that could send something near my eyes, and am on constant subconscious alert for things that could "put my eye out." Oops.

Ouch! Bamboo is really tough stuff - they use it for scaffolding on skyscrapers in Hong Kong; one of the buildings I lived in (8th floor of a 12-storey building) was being cleaned/repainted when I was there and the scaffolding was all bamboo, tied together with jute twine. Strong, but flexible, in the sometimes high winds (i.e. hurricanes) there :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck and I hope it heals itself soon.
