toeing the line

The offended hallux is healing nicely, and rather abruptly. It hurt like hell for days, but suddenly yesterday it started to feel better. Late in the day.

Yesterday was bad from the start. Lisa's dog peed on my couch during the night. This dog simply does not do these things; he was very well housebroken when we got him. So, I'm angry about the couch. That is where my workspace is, or was.

Then I started on the budget, and found a discrepancy that seemed to indicate a large overcharge at the pharmacy. Hot and bothered, I prepared to drive down there with my receipts to confront the manager's manager's manager. Fortunately, I did a bit more research before getting into the car and realized that everything was as it should be.

Finding out that my memory was faulty and that I had jumped to conclusions just pissed me off even more. It is tempting to blame inadequate caffeine, working first thing in the morning, but it was my mistake and I accept that now.

Every little thing was bothering me. Things that always slide off like water off a duck. Then I found the "Acceptance Prayer," printed on a wallet-size card, sitting on the table. I had picked it up at a meeting a few days prior. It helped a bit, letting me think things through. I meditated to music for a couple of hours, occasionally picking up the guitar to play along. That always helps.

My reliable, rough-and-ready Winamp music player crashed eventually. Then DrWatson crashed while trying to diagnose the premature death of the Winamp process. SOP for the day. I suspect the Weather Channel Desktop program had a hand in this, and it was slowing my machine down as well, so I disabled it. I had just installed it two days ago and nothing else has changed.

Anyway, by early evening my mood had been nearly restored. I had paid the car insurance and last month's mortgage, including unpaid late charges that had accumulated some time ago. For the first time in about a week, I wanted to cook something. I made cheeseburgers with sauteed onions, and actually enjoyed eating them.

And this morning I affixed the Acceptance Prayer to my computer. I cannot help but notice it. It's right next to the touchpad.
