getting legal and healthy

On Monday I finally got my Florida driver's license and can drive legally for the first time in 13 years and 23 days. (Don't ask how I got to the tax office to get the license.)

June 19, 1997. For want of a headlight, I was pulled over. Very intoxicated. Blacked out after the handcuffs and leg cuffs went on and woke up the next morning, in jail, wearing orange.

I got rid of my car after that and never intended to get another license; I never wanted to be The Drunk Driver again. Even when I had three years of sobriety, I never wanted a license.

But I am sober now and need to drive to shop, to work and to take Lisa to the doctor. The day that I got my license was also my 2 years, 6 months sobriety anniversary.

Lisa's knee replacement is coming along great. She still has her up and down days, but today at least she was walking around with and without a cane. The home health aide was very impressed on her last visit. The swelling and discoloration are almost completely gone.
