feelin' fine
The weather is beautiful. I am sitting outside. Jack, the cat, just very aggressively chased another cat out of the yard. He is the master of our bit of territory and wants all of the other cats to respect that!
Since visiting the mental health center and getting a refill of my meds, my attitude has greatly improved, but I feel like doing something. But what to do? I cleaned the mirrors in both bathrooms, emptied the kitchen trash and bagged all the empty pop cans.
Which brings up a linguistic problem. Over the past eight years, living in Florida, I began calling soft drinks "soda", not "pop". At least I have never started saying "Co-Cola". I am trying to reverse the "soda" habit but it is not easy. (Is there a "Changing Vocabulary Anonymous" organization?)
Growing up in the eastern Great Lakes, we called soft drinks "pop" (although my alcoholic grandfather called beer "pop" sometimes). In Rochester, hot dogs are called "hots". There are "red hots" and "white hots". I particularly miss the Zweigle's brand red and white hots (especially the white ones). They aren't available very far outside the Rochester area and I am over a thousand miles away. And "Grandma Brown's baked beans" are hard to find down here as well. I was never that fond of baked beans, but it is another example of regional cuisine.
I'll come up with something to cook, though. It needs to be done. Neither Lisa nor I have been eating very well lately despite all the food my folks gave us at our Thanksgiving visit. The leftovers they sent home with us got eaten up pretty quickly, though. They were delicious when they were fresh and almost as good over the following couple of days.
Now I need to decide what to make for supper, despite the fact that I am not yet hungry. Yesterday I hardly ate anything. In fact, it has been several days since I have made anything that could be called a dinner. We have an entire bag of potatoes that have been in the vegetable drawer of the refrigerator for so long that I am not even sure that they are any good. I love taters, so I think I'll do something with them today.
