I can smell the freedom in the air!

CNN just projected a victory for Barack Obama, and John McCain has conceded the election personally to President-elect Obama.

The predictions from the so-called "right wingers" that Obama's stated policies will cause severe job losses, business failures and "big government" bring to mind the comments of my conservative co-workers in 1992, when Bill Clinton defeated George H. W. Bush: severe job losses, business failures and "big government".

"Sell your stock now," they said, "because the market will tank and you'll need the money when your job goes away." What followed, of course, was the largest and longest economic expansion in U.S. history, smaller government and ultimately not only a balanced federal budget but an actual budget surplus. My own income skyrocketed to 300% of what I was earning during Bush Sr.'s final year in office.

Then George W. Bush was elected, promising "compassionate conservatism" and smaller government. What we got instead was a massive increase in government, curtailed liberties, war, recession, financial collapse and the largest budget deficit in U.S. history.

God bless America! Our eight-year nightmare is over.
