This weekend brings us the United States observance of Memorial Day. Waterloo, NY always observes this holiday on May 30 and has been declared the Official Birthplace of Memorial Day.

Waterloo was the town where my children first attended school. At the time we lived in Dublin, NY, which then had a population of 45 souls.
