Intravenous de Milo

Today marks my return to work after an entire month in the hospital.

On April 7 2007 I was rushed to the ER because I found it very difficult to breathe, had no discernible pulse and was vomiting uncontrollably. Oh, I was in excruciating pain, too.

Blood tests showed a massive case of pancreatitis. There are certain enzyme levels that point toward that diagnosis, and they - whatever they are - were at outrageous levels. And, my white blood cell count was about 59,000. They tell me that's bad.

So, I survived, thanks to four weeks of IVs and a Demerol pump. God Bless Demerol. For the first two weeks they wouldn't even let me drink water, much less eat food. Everything came via my good friend, Intravenous de Milo.

I'll try to post more details. While I wasn't allowed Internet access during my stay, I did keep a daily diary on paper.
