know your rights
(this has come in handy for me lately)
If you are stopped by the police or arrested.
Note this line: "Your race, ethnic background, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age or appearance alone are not valid reasons for the officer to stop you."
They have been harassing me on the basis of my appearance. I have long hair and a big old fuzzy beard, and walk around with a backpack. That is, I fit the profile of a homeless person (go figure).

Why not trim your beard neatly, so that you don't appear to be a homeless person or like Rip Van Winkle? (not to appease them but to improve your appearance, for your own sake...) Be the best you can be, and good things might happen. Let your outward appearance reflect your inner worth.
