WTF
The New York State department of Child Support enforcement found out about my new job. Not a problem, I accept that I must pay support for my children.
Actually there is one small problem. They expect me to pay $1.25 MORE PER HOUR than I am currently earning! I won't get a paycheck at all.
And there are two more problems: my daughter has been in the United States Marine Corps for over one year, yet they expect me to continue paying support for her. My son is 18 and employed, but they also expect me to continue paying the full amount for him.
I have no problem paying legitimate arrears for the time before my children were emancipated, but there is no excuse for asking me to pay support for a 20 year old Marine.

ReplyDeleteYou are obviously confused about the child support thing. The payments they are asking you to make are in fact the arears. You will probably be paying the arears until your children are grown adults and have children of their own. I have read your archives and also the news article about you and it sounds like you are a classic example of a "deadbeat Dad". Obviously you did not contact the child support center when you chose to live the life of an alcoholic and give up a good job. If you had, the proper adjustment would have been made at that time. I suggest you contact them and get the adjustments made or you will be paying the set amount. NY state child support is based on payments of 25% of your income if there are two or more children. It seems your income has changed quite a bit based on the amount you are expected to pay.Just because your children have reached the age limit for support, doesn't mean you stop paying what is owed.
ReplyDeleteI am surprised a man with your intelligence would not have taken care of this matter as soon as you became unemployed.
You can always negotiate with the state. That's a "first offer", and they'd rather you eventually pony up than end up in jail or on welfare.
