locked in the cemetery
Seriously!
One of my favorite places to sit in the shade and read is Tallahassee's "Old City Cemetery". The signs say, "Visitation hours: Sunrise to Sunset".
So I was very surprised when, at about 4:30 pm today, I heard the creaking of iron gates and the clank of a lock. Sunset today is scheduled for 7:44 pm.
I got up and headed toward the gate, and sure enough it was locked. I went to the other entrance and found it locked as well. A futile attempt was made at scaling the gate, and I have a nice bruise on my shin to show for it.
Fortunately I am a rather slender individual. A walk around the enclosing fence revealed a spot where some of the wrought iron bars had been bent aside at the bottom of the fence. I was able to slip under easily.
That's another first for me. Not slipping under the fence (I've done that elsewhere), but actually getting locked in a cemetery.
I believe it was George Carlin who asked, "Why are there fences around cemeteries? It's not like anybody inside will try to get out."
