life goes on

and the domestication of the dog continues unabated

This past week I only got out one time through day labor. It was one of my favorite job tickets, though: the trash route.

I love the trash route. Lots of walking (which I would be doing anyway, if I weren't at work), and a 10-hour check guaranteed. Only one problem in this happy picture; they changed the rules for City of Tallahassee job tickets. Regardless of which day(s) you work, you can only get your check on Friday. They neglected to point that out when I went out that morning.

Needless to day, I was a bit upset when I got back to the shop that afternoon.

I would have taken the ticket anyway, but it would have been nice to get a warning about having to wait two days for my check. After all, it's called "day labor": you work that day, you get paid that day. Pretty straightforward. If I'd known I wasn't going to get paid until Friday, I wouldn't have bought that can of pop during working hours. I would have saved the change so I could buy some smokes after work.

Thursday I didn't get out. I was halfway down the sign-in list; everybody before me on the list and most of the people after me got out. One might think that they were trying to tell me something.

My daughter goes to Parris Island in two days. I pray to God I can see her again. Lord, don't let her die needlessly in Iraq.
