lost one job ...
... and got another
For two weeks I worked at a local gas station. The owner was paying me under-the-table, so he didn't feel any need to pay minimum wage. He would bitch that I was wasting my money by staying at a motel: "I'm not willing to subsidize your staying at a motel. Why don't you get a room at a friend's house?"
The problem is, he would whine about giving me $50 for a 9 to 12 hour day. In Florida, minimum wage for an 8 hour day is $49.20; thus he was taking advantage of me regardless of where I stayed at night. He apparently thought that if I had a cheaper place to stay, he could pay less than $50 for my usual long day.
One day I worked for 14 hours straight, and he only gave me $65. And then he told me that $5 of that was "extra money" so I could do my laundry before showing up for work the next day.
He claimed he was giving me "an opportunity". Yes, he was: he was giving me the opportunity to bend over and take it up the ass without any K-Y. That's not the kind of opportunity I seek.
He would crow about how he "fed me". Yes, he gave me lunch sometimes, but I never once asked for it. If he had paid me a fair wage I could have bought junk food off his shelves and would have been just as happy eating that.
He told me that he treated me as well as if I was his girlfriend. If that is true, then I feel sorry for his girlfriend. She must get verbally abused and fucked without lubrication on a daily basis.
He would crack the whip over me all day long, even after telling me that he needed me and that he could see that I worked hard and worked fast. He constantly warned me about stealing beer and soda pop from his cooler, even though I never stole anything from him and never intended to.
Even though I live directly across the street from his store, I won't be shopping there again. He charges too much for everything anyway.
Three days ago I started working for a local flooring contractor. I told him I wanted at least minimum wage; he started me at $8 per hour, and doesn't crack a whip over me all day long. He appreciates and respects me. I don't ask any more than that.
