i gave my love a chicken ...
... without a bone
Today I saw a chicken in the wild. No, really, I did.
I was sitting at the back corner of a west Tallahassee gas station, innocently reading a book, when a loud - and oddly familiar - cackling commenced. Immediately a red hen (i.e. chicken) came flying in, landing not 20 feet away.
The hen browsed for a half-hour or so, wandering about the parking lot. Finally she settled in under the trees near me. She laid down and goofed off in the dirt for about 15 minutes; at that point she stood up and began striding confidently across the parking lot, from whence she had originally arrived. This time she was on foot rather than airborne.
She quickly made her way across the first yard on that side street, stopping only for the more exposed ground near the heat pump. Looking for munchies, I suppose.
