interesting claims by Bush
The pResident said in a campaign speech, "There are some in Washington that are going to say, 'Let's not make the tax cuts permanent.' That means he's going to raise your taxes," Bush said at a factory. "When you hear people say, 'We're not going to make this permanent,' that means tax increase."
Well, that's not exactly true. What it really means is that recent tax cuts won't be made permanent. These tax cuts have been major contributors to the current record deficit, and the tax cuts in question were given primarily to the very rich.
"Let me tell you what's going to happen when they raise them," Bush said. "They're going to say, 'Oh, we got to raise it so we can pay down the deficit. Uh-uh. They're going to raise the taxes and increase the size of the federal government, which would be bad for the United States economy."
Also not quite true. Remember the Clinton years? President Clinton reduced the size of the federal government and balanced the budget, even producing budget surpluses. Bush, on the other hand, reduced taxes and increased the size of the government enormously.
If Bush is re-elected, the deficit will increase; the government will grow and government income will fall. We will pay and our children will pay.
